The Department of Health and Human Services will direct $52.5 million more taxpayer dollars to gun control:
- The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will provide $12.5 million in gun control grants. Awards expected in September 2021.
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will fund $10 million over 5 years for gun control. Awards are expected by August 2021.
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will provide $30 million over 5 years, through its National Centers of Excellence in Youth Violence Prevention (Youth Violence Prevention Centers or YVPCs) program. Awards expected in Sept., 2021.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will redirect $8.6 billion more of taxpayer dollars to gun control:
- HUD will encourage gun control through $200 million in grants for the FY21 Choice Neighborhoods Initiative.
- HUD will encourage gun control through its $5 billion CARES Act, Community Development Block Grant - CV Funds (CDBG-CV).
- HUD will publish a guide by June that explains how gun control activities can use CDBG funds, which will also apply to annual formula CDBG funds,of approximately $3.4 billion per year.
The Department of Education (ED) will redirect over $2.5 billion to support gun control actions.
- The ED will issue guidance on how $1.6 billion in taxpayer dollars can promote gun control through their 21st Century Learning Centers (21st CCLC). New awards will be made July 1, 2021.
- The ED will support states and school districts in investing $1.22 billion in gun control through the Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) program. New awards will be made July 1, 2021.
- The ED will launch a new competition in FY22 for Project Prevent, an $11 million in grants for gun control.
- The ED will incentivize applicants to use gun control strategies in two grant competitions for FY22: The grants will go to the Full Service Community Schools and Promise Neighborhoods.
The Department of Labor (DOL) will promote gun control with $3.75 billion dollars in grants.
- The DOL will provide $89 million to promote gun control through YouthBuild, a WIOA discretionary program.
- The DOL will give $25 million for gun control grants through allowable grant activity for its Young Adult Reentry Partnership grants. The funding opportunity announcement will be posted in early 2022.
