- On June 3, 2019, the House Judiciary's Subcommittee on Antitrusts held a bipartisan investigation into Google’s competition in digital markets.162 Here is the full 450 page report.163
- In October 2019, Google refused to work with the US Military and withdrew their $10 billion contract bid to the Pentagon for a cloud computing project called Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI), which would migrate significant amounts of Pentagon data to the cloud. Microsoft, Oracle, and Amazon were said to be vying for the contract, but all of these companies are heavily involved with the Chinese military and none of these companies are safe for the US military.164
- Around June 1, 2020, YouTube, a Google subsidiary, disclosed that its algorithm had automatically removed certain phrases criticizing the Communist Party of China. Censored terms were “communist bandit,” which is derogatory for the Chinese Communist Party, or the name of their for the Chinese Communist Party’s paid Internet trolls, which is the “50-cent party.”165, 166
- In early June 2020, Google censored and removed a mobile application from its Google Play Store that helped users locate and delete apps developed by Chinese-based companies that might be a security risk. The app, “Remove China Apps,” was developed by Indian firm OneTouch AppLabs. It gained popularity due to growing anti-China sentiment in India since the first battle of what is now a serious security situation at the Himalayan border region between the two countries.167 At least 20 Indian soldiers died in the border skirmish.168
- On October 21, 2020, the Trump administration sued Google in what is the largest antitrust case against a tech company in more than two decades. Eleven states joined in. The eleven states included: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, South Carolina and Texas.169
- On Oct 31, 2020, for the 2020 presidential election, Google was caught once again censoring conservatives 5 different times.170
